This bed was designed for a large vaulted farmhouse bedroom. The posts are short to clear the vast light oak cross beams. English Elm with plenty of burr was chosen for its wild, robust open grain. Cherry would have looked too dainty against the raw oak floors and roof timbers. The sleeping platform stands high to give space and light beneath.
I wanted the rather Byzantine headboard to be a bold statement echoed in the carved finials capping each post.
